Questionnaires:
Neel Preet: Firstly, Congratulations on your book, “Practicing Management In Corporates!” Well, can you please share your experience about making your work come into the form of book!
Jitendra Dutt Sharma:
Thanks for asking this question. The evolution of this book is also a journey. I was taking baby steps to improve thought leadership and promoting it. For that I have started analysing the incidents and writing blogs on those topics. Later I have realized that this can be preserved and used by wider audience. Obviously, book and e-book are better means of preserving the experience for longer period. This way this book is evolved.
Neel Preet: I’ve read your book & I genuinely feel that it’s a “Saviour” for the management learners, so what inspired you to write this book? What was the impetus behind this work of yours?
Jitendra Dutt Sharma:
I had strong urge to share my experience with aspirant leaders. While handling multi culture big team, my observation is that transition from technical to managerial role is like walking in unknown terrain. Even seasoned leaders also need some point of reference at some cross roads.
Therefore, my focus was to share the real-life experience in simpler word with examples.
Neel Preet: Your book title definitely goes with the book’s content & is very catchy too! So, can you please explain the reason for going with this book title to the readers?
Jitendra Dutt Sharma:
My personal belief is that management is not an academic subject only. It is an art, science, acquired skills and inborn characteristic and to be used as per the situation demand. It doesn’t have set rule to manage the same situation by different leaders. Management is refined as you experiment and practice. My journey is at corporate only. So, I found Practicing Management in Corporate as appropriate name.
Neel Preet: Can you please explain how this book is different from the other books of the same genre? In addition, is it based upon any particular experience of yours?
Jitendra Dutt Sharma:
This book is different as we are not explaining theory, rather sharing field experience. I tried to explain the different situation on shop floor and how that was handled. Practical aspect is taking precedence over theory or ideal solutions. Some of the topics are not debated enough example “Examining the role of HR?” or “organization politics and politics in the organization”. I am talking about it very openly.
Neel Preet: Studying the subject matter of this book, I’m greatly impressed and I want you to explain us, in your version that, how this book is relevant in the present day scenario!
Jitendra Dutt Sharma:
In today’s context this book is very relevant due to multiple reasons.
- We have crossed a very tough phase of life in Covid, leadership in this phase will be different than previously
- Employee connect and upskilling has to be done in different ways as most of the organization working in hybrid way
- Developing leadership is very challenging in remote working and I have observed personally the dilemma of new leaders in different situation
- Campus graduates are very confused to adopt leadership role and move away from technical roles
This book helps them to provide the answers.
Neel Preet: Next, I want you to tell us about some of those writers or business personalities, who had inspired you!
Jitendra Dutt Sharma:
I am highly inspired with my few managers and named them in my acknowledgment sections. Personally, I feel there can not be one role model for your journey, individual needs to observe and learn different leaders and gain knowledge.
Neel Preet: Is there any message, which you would like to convey to your readers? Or any piece of advice that you would like to give to the readers out there!
Jitendra Dutt Sharma:
Every sailor need some light house to follow in deep sea even if he is expert in sailing and equipped with modern equipment. Same true for professionals also, they need some reference time to time for adjusting the direction. My book may prove to be a light house to some.
Neel Preet: Are there any other books being worked by you? Please let us know about your future projects.
Jitendra Dutt Sharma:
My next book will be on social and parenting the Gen Z. The name of book is “Ghar Ghar Dhritrastra”.
Neel Preet: Thank you so much for answering all my questions. All the very best to you for future and your book too!
