The Canadian R&B star, The Weeknd, performed in the SuperBowl’s interval time in Florida’s Raymond James Stadium. Appearing in his signature album art costume, the singing sensation performed hits from the 2020 album “After Hours” and the earlier albums. The Starboy hitmaker performed both on stage and took the camera backstage and on the ground in front of a socially distanced audience of almost 25000 spectators.
Abel Tesfaye, The Weeknd showed some moves making the viewers reminisce Michael Jackson and also sung along songs like “The Hills,” “Earned It” and others. It was anticipated and feared that The Weeknd’s performance might not match the spirit of the event due to the nature of both his music and feature of content. However, the music spoke for itself and audience were awestruck. Twitter trends and tweets are a testimony of that.
Twitterati also took no time in making memes based on The Weeknd’s different faces and shots in the almost 13 minutes performance. The event also featured an army of men with bandaged faces, kickstarted by the artist himself. The Weeknd explained to “Variety” what those bandages mean,
“The significance of the entire head bandages is reflecting on the absurd culture of Hollywood celebrity and people manipulating themselves for superficial reasons to please and be validated.”
